Remembering September 11

Remembering September 11

We understand a lot more about Islamic militancy and violent Jihad than we did in the days after 9/11. I recall Prime Minister Blair and George Bush explaining that Islam is a religion of peace. Many believed that at the time.

Now more and more people are aware that however many peaceful Muslims there are in the country, however many friendly Muslim neighbours and colleagues we have, it doesn’t really matter. We must look at the core teachings of Islam and when we do that we find something different. This is not about who Muslims are ... it is about what Islam teaches.
So what should we do about Jihad and Islam?

Well firstly we cannot hide our head in the sand. The answer is to speak the truth carefully and with respect. We cannot avoid the truth... it is vital that we speak the truth about Jihad.

But does speaking the truth about Islam create a danger to peaceful Muslims, to secular Muslims, to Muslims who were born into the faith but not totally on board with the violent teachings of the Koran?

My response is that we particularly owe it to them to speak the truth; we must do it for their sakes. They are in greater danger in the short-term than other segments of society. The reason is simple, they are in grave danger of apostasy charges. Therefore they are better protected, and better served by Canada and the US when we are on a normalised path to expose the violent Jihadists and those that preach militant Islam.

Clouding the issue by political correctness, and Human Rights agendas magnifies the problem; getting things out in the open – into the light of day – will be healthier for all concerned.

The way forward is a path of police work, criminal investigation, and legal action against all those that preach violent Jihad. That means getting the facts out into the light of day in a truthful and honest way. That is the way to ensure protection for moderate Muslims and the vigour and safety of our society and our democratic institutions.

I sense many people are tired about the issue but they should remember “Freedom is not Free” it comes at a price. If we are to have a just society where Muslims, Christians, Jews, Atheists, and all religions, can coexist in safety and justice, then we need to address the issue of Jihad with clarity and honesty.

Clarity & Honesty - Lux et Veritas.
