Anti-Semitism in Egypt

Farouk Hosni, Egypt's Culture Minister for 20 years, failed in his bid to lead the to lead the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

But this had nothing to do with his suitability for the position but it "was a Zionist plot"; complained Mr. Hosni, a notion echoed by much of the Egyptian media and government officials.

We learn that this was a "Western-Zionist conspiracy."

"World Jewry, obviously threatened by the idea of an Egyptian holding the position, had a major influence on the elections." claimed Hosni.  Apparently, Hosni believes that the position should rightfully be his.

The whole world is against Hosni:, even "President Barak Obama ... played a leading role in Hosni's defeat".

During Hosni's reign as Culture Minister, Egyptian TV produced and broadcast a lavish production of the viciously anti-Semitic forgery "Protocols of the Elders of Zion;" a discredited tract, first published in 1903 by the Russian secret police alleging a Jewish and Masonic plot to achieve world domination. It's a forgery, but that is of no consequence to Egyptian TV, the aim is to foster hatred against Jews and Israel, so they present it as a documentary.

Note that Israel complained at the time that the TV series will breach a 1979 Israeli-Egyptian peace agreement in which the two parties agreed that they would not incite their peoples against each other.

As Minister of Culture for Egypt, Hosni is on record as declaring during a May 2008 argument with a Muslim Brotherhood member of Parliament concerning cultural ties with Israel:

"I'd burn Israeli books myself if I found any in libraries in Egypt."

This is from the Culture Minister, who a year later is trying to get the UNESCO lead role; but the real reason he didn't get the job is: the world is anti-Arab, the world is anti-Egypt, and the world is anti Moslem.

Funny, but to me the UN seems grossly slanted  towards Arab countries, at the expense of Israel.
